Orange residents have been urged to support our frontline health workers in the current COVID-19 crisis by donating food and offering to take workers' children on outings.

New Orange mayor Jason Hamling said he was concerned about "the potential impact" on the Orange health system as the number of positive cases spiralled this week.

In a statement he said health workers were under stress and needed community support.

"Because our frontline health staff are under the pump, I’d love to see people going out of their way to offer our health staff all the personal support they can," he said.

"It might be something as simple as dropping round a casserole or offering to take the children for a trip to the lake.

“Our local health staff are at the sharp end of dealing with this crisis and an offer of help might be just what’s needed.”

Hamling said he had confidence in the health system but was concerned about the situation.

“Like many other members of the community, I am concerned at the rising case numbers in Orange and the potential impact on our health system if that leads to more hospital admissions than we can handle," he said.

Hamling urged the public to follow health guidelines and be vigilant as the community returned to work after the holidays.
