Fifteen minutes from Orange, and a million miles from care, this country homestead is on the market

July 3, 2023

By Peter Holmes

A five-bedroom compound on one hectare northwest of the Orange CBD has been listed for sale.

On John Carroll Lane in Windera, the expansive home comes with three bathrooms and a study, plus a separate suite.

It is about 12km from the Orange CBD.

The inground pool is heated, and there are two fireplaces, split-system air conditioning and ducted electric floor heating and cooling.

Three decks afford a variety of aspects to take in the rural views.

There is a three-door garage with a workshop area.

Vaulted ceilings, hardwood flooring and French doors are part of the light-filled design.

The kitchen comes with a 900mm gas stove, integrated microwave, stone benches and dishwasher.
A 100,000-litre rainwater tank is on site, plus a separate bore tank that feeds off the communal bore.

There is solar hot water.

Meanwhile, Orange City Council has listed one of its assets - the rundown property at 94 Woodward Street - for sale.

The 1,838-metre block of land is part of a larger parcel owned by council.

It is between Emus Rugby Club and Woodward Street.

A renovator is needed to take advantage of the period features, including hardwood floorboards; stained glass windows; high, pressed metal ceilings; and cast iron fireplaces.

The listing states that there is an “opportunity for renovation and development”.

It will go to auction on Wednesday August 2, 2023. Settlement in December 2023.

Orange councillor Davis Mallard has said the balance of the council land could be used for affordable or social housing.
