The body of a woman located in the Blue Mountains on Sunday afternoon is believed to be that of a Glenbrook resident who was reported missing on Tuesday (August 30, 2022).
The 58-year-old woman was last seen in Brook Road, Glenbrook.
Police attached to the Blue Mountains Police Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries into her whereabouts, including the possibility she may have gone bushwalking.
"Following extensive inquiries and a wide-scale search by local police, SES, Rural Fire Service and volunteers, a woman’s body was located at Glenbrook about 3pm today (Sunday September 4, 2022)," police said in a statement released late on Sunday night.
Police told The Orange News Examiner that there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, and that she had been located in Glenbrook National Park.
While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing woman, police said.
[The Orange News Examiner has chosen not to name the woman out of respect to relatives and friends who may not be aware of her death].
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
The woman's Facebook page paints someone with a love of the great outdoors and adventure, who enjoyed cycling, bushwalking, travelling and exploring nature.
The Katoomba/Leura Rural Fire Brigade posted late on Sunday night: "A massive thank to all of our RFS, SES, ambulance, police and civilian searchers, who spent many hours in cold conditions and rugged terrain during the search operation."
